We are supporting the Operation Christmas Child campaign once again this year. Why?
Firstly, because we are commanded to. In Matthew 27 we are told to go and make disciples of all nations. These shoeboxes not only bring great joy to children around the world, but also support local churches with a valuable resource with which to share the gospel.
Secondly, we are also instructed to be generous and willing givers and share what God has given us with those in need. These shoeboxes go to areas of real need, where children may not have basics or have never received a Christmas present.
You can find more information on the Operation Christmas Child Website.
How can you get involved?
If you are able please collect a pre-printed shoebox from church, or wrap one you have at home. Choose whether you want to pack for a boy or girl and which age range and then have shopping for toys, hygiene items, school supplies, gloves, hats, craft items (more ideas on the Operation Christmas Child Website). Lastly add a letter to the child who will receive your box, add the £5 contribution towards shipping and pray for the recipient. Please remember that all items must be new and be aware of items that are prohibited. PLEASE RETURN YOUR COMPLETED SHOEBOX BY SUNDAY 10TH NOVEMBER.
We are hoping to pack 110 boxes this year!
If you are not able to commit to a whole box, are not able to get out shopping or short on time, you can still get involved. We would love to receive donations of items to pack in shoeboxes or monetary gifts to purchase items (please speak to Tammy Hughes or put donations in an envelope clearly marked Operation Christmas Child and drop off at church). PLEASE RETURN ALL DONATIONS BY SUNDAY 3RD NOVEMBER TO ALLOW US TIME TO SHOP AND PACK.
The Amazon wish list is also available again this year. You can choose items from the list which will be delivered directly to Tammy to pack into boxes.
